Shareholders at annual meetings on Wednesday rejected separate proposals at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Bank of America Corp. to separate the roles of chair and chief executive at the banks.

At the banks' annual meetings, shareholders at both companies struck down proposals that would have split the board chair and CEO roles. Two other proposals also failed to win shareholder support, one concerning energy financing and another on pay gap analysis.

Bank of America shareholders rejected a proposal to divide the CEO and chairman roles held by Brian Moynihan on Wednesday at the company's virtual annual meeting. Proxy advisers had recommend investors vote for the bank to separate the positions in an effort to improve governance.
