G ary Floyd, the openly gay singer of early 1980s Texas punk band The Dicks, has died. He was 71. His death, from congestive heart failure, was first reported by the Austin Chronicle on May 3.

Gary was the singer and they went on to play together in Sister Double Happiness. Gary was a hero, hilarious and proud, and put gay punk rock on the map before any of us. He was an artist and a friend and an inspiration.
