The 150th Kentucky Derby is missing horse racing’s household name: Bob Baffert. The Hall of Fame trainer with a record-tying six victories won’t be saddling a contender in Saturday’s Run for the Roses for the third consecutive year.

Post positions have been drawn for the 2024 Kentucky Derby, and Florida Derby winner Fierceness will attempt to do what no other horse has done before. The reigning juvenile champion drew post No. 17 for the Kentucky Derby 2024 on Saturday at Churchill Downs.

In 2023, Baffert won the Preakness with National Treasure, his 17th win in a Triple Crown race. One of his horses was injured in a race on the undercard and had to be euthanized. The AP noted Baffert earned over $12.6 million for the year.

Baffert had another year tacked on to his two-year suspension by Churchill Downs Inc., which was set to expire in 2023.
