Japan's Defense Minister Minoru Kihara on Friday called for stronger anti-drone capabilities following the posting of a drone video on Chinese social media.

Japan’s defense chief has called for the bolstering of its anti-drone capability after a drone footage posted on a Chinese social media site showed a Japanese aircraft carrier docked at a restricted navy port west of Tokyo.

Close-up footage of Japan’s flagship aircraft carrier taken by a drone in restricted airspace and reportedly circulated online constitutes a “serious security problem”, a former defense minister told reporters.

Footage of a Japanese naval destroyer that circulated on Chinese social media is likely genuine, Tokyo’s Defence Ministry said on May 9, after initial speculation the video may have been generated by artificial intelligence.
