A South Korean court has approved the new arrest of former President Yoon Suk Yeol on charges related to his brief imposition of martial law in December, accepting a special prosecutor’s claim that he poses a risk of destroying evidence.

A South Korean court early Thursday approved a fresh arrest warrant for disgraced former President Yoon Suk-yeol and placed him in custody, days after special investigators renewed efforts to detain him over his failed martial law bid.

South Korea’s former president Yoon Suk Yeol was detained for a second time Thursday over his controversial declaration of martial law last year.
