The Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court for permission to resume deportations of Venezuelan migrants to El Salvador under an 18th century wartime law, while a court fight continues.

A majority of the justices concluded that the Venezuelan migrants had brought their cases in the wrong court but that they were entitled to an opportunity to challenge their removal.

A federal appeals court rejected on Friday a request by U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to allow it to move forward with stripping temporary legal protections for about 350,000 Venezuelan migrants,
