The UNC System would be required to generate an additional $30 million in revenue annually, translating to a tuition increase between 2% and 3%. Tuition for in-state, undergraduate students hasn’t increased in nine years, and system president Peter Hans said he is “hopeful” to make it a decade.

NC House Republicans unveiled plans for sweeping cuts in many areas of state government, as well as spending boosts in other areas, but have not yet revealed their plans for tax cuts or state employee raises.

The N.C. House began releasing its budget proposal Thursday, and Republicans are planning cuts in what's expected to be a tight budget year.
