At a golf course dubbed Rory McIlroy Country Club, fans and the media expected more and not for McIlroy’s week to be the giant dud that it was.

The PGA of America smartly created a mega group for the first two rounds of the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, putting together Scheffler, the World No. 1, with the next two men in the rankings, Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele.

Rory McIlroy did not have the week he wanted at Quail Hollow. The 2025 PGA Championship co-favorite at 5-1 failed to factor into the conversation on the weekend, sputtering to a 3 over finish. That effort came after reportedly needing to rely in a new driver after his standard driver failed USGA driver testing earlier in the week.
