Two-time Cheltenham Festival winner Shishkin has died after breaking a leg in an accident in his stable, says his trainer Nicky Henderson. The horse had been due to race in the Punchestown Gold Cup on Wednesday. Shishkin won the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in 2020 and the Arkle Chase the following year.

Nicky Henderson has revealed that his popular stable star Shishkin has died due to an injury suffered at Seven Barrows, as he paid tribute to the “warrior” racehorse. The 10-year-old was due to contest the Ladbrokes Punchestown Gold Cup on Wednesday.

Shishkin, one of the best staying chasers in the country, has been put down after fracturing a hindleg in an accident in his box on Sunday afternoon.
