Oakland police are investigating two homicides that took place about a year apart as possibly connected and are asking for the public's help with leads.

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Oakland police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened near Lake Merritt on Sunday. The shooting happened just before noon on the 1200 block of 1st Avenue. Police say they found a victim with a gunshot wound. The victim died at the scene, police said.

A man was wounded then drove through a fence and hit two parked cars in a motel parking lot on East 12th Street, police say.

A shooting left one person dead in Oakland Sunday afternoon, according to police. The shooting happened just before noon in the 1200 block of First Avenue, police said. When officers arrived, they found one person who had been shot and later died due to their injuries.

A person was fatally shot Sunday near the southern end of Oakland’s Lake Merritt, police said. The shooting occurred just before noon on First Avenue near the busy intersection with East 12th Street.
