(Reuters) -Facebook parent company Meta Platforms asked a federal judge on Thursday to throw out the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's case accusing it of an illegal social media monopoly, saying the agency failed to prove its case at a high-stakes antitrust trial.

Facebook’s parent company, Meta, asked a federal judge to toss the Federal Trade Commission’s antitrust case against it. Meta claimed that the FTC failed to prove during the trial that the company violated antitrust laws and that acquiring both Instagram and WhatsApp was anticompetitive.

The Federal Trade Commission wrapped up its case Thursday for breaking up Meta Platforms Inc. as an illegal social-media monopoly, with the company now set to lay out its defense in the ongoing antitrust trial.
