G7 leaders have reiterated their stance on Iran’s nuclear enrichment programme, saying the country would not be allowed to be a nuclear-armed state, even as they called for de-escalation in the Middle East,

"At one point, there was concern they wouldn't be able to produce a joint declaration," a Western diplomat told the Post.

The G7 leaders said that they "stand ready to coordinate, including with like-minded partners, to safeguard market stability".

Iran has sharply condemned a G7 statement on the conflict between Israel and the Islamic Republic. The group of major Western democracies, meeting in Canada, called Iran "the principal source of regional instability and terror" and emphasized Israel's right to self-defence.
