President Trump this week joined the growing chorus of calls to punish federal judges who rule against his administration. But impeachment and removal are unlikely under the current makeup of Congress.

Sen. John Curtis (R-Utah) reacts to President Trump’s calls to impeach a federal judge who ruled against him in a case related to his mass deportation efforts. Curtis says two-thirds of the Senate would never vote to remove the judge.

“For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose,” Roberts said in a statement that did not mention by name either Trump or Boasberg.

Like impeaching and convicting a president, there is a high bar to cross to remove a federal judge from the bench, despite Donald Trump's calls.
