It remains to be seen how long the truce will hold and whether it will pave the way for a nuclear deal between the U.S. and Iran.

The president made it clear that he mostly blamed Israel for violating the ceasefire after both sides increased attacks in the final hours.

"We have two countries that have been fighting for so long, they don't know what the f-ck they're doing," Trump said.

A tentative truce faltered Tuesday when Israel accused Iran of launching missiles into its airspace after the cease-fire was supposed to take effect and vowed to retaliate.

According to US officials, Trump bypassed normal diplomatic channels and acted through a tight inner circle, notably envoy Steve Witkoff, who engaged Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi through Arab intermediaries. Trump’s message was simple: the strikes were a warning; now was the time to talk.

The conflict began with Israel targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites, saying it could not allow Tehran to develop atomic weapons.
