President Donald Trump's administration has faced judicial roadblocks while attempting to deport foreign pro-Palestinian students and protesters in the U.S., including on Friday when a judge ordered that Columbia University graduate Mahmoud Khalil be released from immigration custody.

The decision is the latest setback for the administration’s effort to detain and deport academics who have protested Israel.

Mahmoud Khalil was granted release on bail by a federal judge after a hearing Friday, in the latest move in the pro-Palestinian activist's legal saga following his March arrest that spotlighted the Trump administration's deportation crackdown.
