Two steps forward, one step back. Though Representative-elect Sarah McBride, a Democrat from Delaware, just made history as the first openly trans person to win a seat in Congress, her Republican colleagues are already using her presence to roll out a decidedly anti-trans agenda.

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson declared that lawmakers and staff will have to use restrooms corresponding with their biological gender.

Vladimir Luxuria, who is trans, was briefly barred from using the women’s restroom when she took her seat in Italy's Parliament in 2006.
