The measles outbreak that began in West Texas now totals 725 cases across three states. Less than 10 cases in Texas are considered actively infectious.

Texas health officials reported that a measles outbreak centered in the South Plains region grew to 646 cases on Friday, with more than two-thirds of infections in children and teens. The latest update from the Texas Department of State Health Services added 22 new cases since the agency's last update on Tuesday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed nearly 900 measles cases in the U.S. on Friday, though much of the measles cases in the country remain centered in Texas, which confirmed earlier this week there have been 624 cases of the highly contagious illness in the state this year.
