Tropical Storm Gordon, which became a named storm Friday, was forecast to weaken into a depression on Sunday. In its 5 p.m. AST update, the National Hurricane Center said Gordon had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.

The official forecast track from the National Hurricane Center shows Gordon slowly meandering west across the open Atlantic for the next few days, potentially even weakening to a tropical depression. Beyond that, most computer models show the system curving out to sea away from North America.

The Atlantic hurricane season has seen two new storms this week, after an extended lull. Gordon is not currently a threat to land.
