A potential tropical storm is forming in the Gulf of Mexico — and it’s already causing chaos. The system, currently labeled Invest 93L, has a 40% chance of developing into Tropical Storm Dexter within 48 hours.

The tropical development in the northern Gulf of Mexico this week is expected to be limited due to its close proximity to land, but it will still pose a danger for the millions who reside across the region.

"Heavy rain is already moving through Louisiana and will continue over the next few days," AccuWeather's Alex DaSilva said.
