The number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment benefits dropped last week, suggesting the economy maintained a steady pace of job growth in May, though it is becoming harder for those out of work to find new opportunities.

There were 6,508 new unemployment claims filed in the Sunshine State for the week ending May 10. It’s an increase, but only by 82 filings over the week ending May 3. It’s the second week in a row that initial unemployment claims have increased. But for most of 2025, a majority of DOL reports have shown new jobless claims falling.

Applications for US unemployment benefits fell to a four-week low, adding to evidence that the job market remains healthy in the face of growing uncertainty tied to trade policy.
