It can be used instead of less disease resistant varieties such as Wintergreen or Green Beauty. The glossy, green foliage is compact and dense, lending itself to topiary and hedge forming. NewGen Freedom® is a moderate grower and will require annual clipping to keep its neat, tidy appearance. Because it grows at a rate of 3-4 inches a year, it also fills in quickly for hedges. NewGen Freedom® Boxwood CareBoxwood needs full sun to stay healthy and green. They tolerate an acidic soil but do best with a neutral 7.0 pH. Moderately fertile and moist soil must be free draining to avoid any root rot diseases. Boxwood requires minimal watering after establishingPruning can be an annual event, done before new growth starts early in the spring. This is a good time to remove any dead or dying branch tips that might not have made it through the winter. Pruning time is also a great time to feed the Boxwood with a slow release, balanced fertilizer. One feeding is all that is required per season. This will help the new evergreen growth to maintain its color and vigor.NewGen Freedom® Boxwood SpacingSpacing of 4 feet on center is best when planting this Boxwood to grow into a hedge. If topiary is the goal for NewGEn Freedom®, they can be planted at a larger spacing to allow for the whole shape to be seen. With an overall height of 4-5 feet and width of 4-5feet, Boxwood works in formal containers or as part of a seasonal mixed planter.NewGen Freedom® Boxwood InformationUSDA Hardiness Zones: 5 - 8Plant Type: BushesLight Exposure: Full Shade to Full Sun (Can Grow In Most Sunlight Conditions)Mature Height: 4 - 5 FeetMature Spread: 4 - 5 FeetSpacing: 4 - 5 FeetHabit: MoundedFlower Color(s): NoneFlower Description: Bloom Period: Foliage Type: EvergreenFoliage Color(s): GreenFoliage Description: Seasonal Interest: Spring Flowering, Summer Flowering, Fall Flowering, Winter Interest, 4 Season InterestWatering: AverageResists: Deer, Disease, Pests & InsectsTolerates: DroughtAttracts: Bees, BirdsContainer Role: Uses: Borders, Specimen or Focal Point, Wildlife GardensFeatures: Attracts Pollinators, Foliage Interest, Low MaintenanceBrand: Common Name: NewGen Freedom® BoxwoodOther Name(s): Scientific Name: BUXUS NEWGEN `FREEDOM` | Bushes > Boxwoods NewGen Boxwood 1014331-pc
