Description
The Oakland Holly is a statuesque beauty from the Southern Living Plant Collection! This selection is essentially the new and improved Nellie R. Stevens Holly, which has been the pyramidal holly choice for years now. This new variety has gorgeous multi-spined leaves that are not sharp to the touch, unlike the Nellie R. Stevens. These leaves are truly some of the most elegant and refined holly leaves around. It grows with a naturally pyramidal growth habit and requires little, if any, pruning. Furthermore, the Oakland produces bright red berries (not edible) in Winter that contrast fantastically with the dark green leaves. At maturity, this variety reaches 15-20 feet tall and 12-15 feet wide. It's perfect for a privacy screen, specimen, or foundation planting. The Oakland is hardy from USDA Zones 6-9 and grows well from Full Sun to Part Sun. Plant in average quality garden soil with good drainage and provide water 2-3 times per week for the first growing season. These Oakland Holly trees are well-rooted in 3 gallon pots and will tend to range from 16-20 inches tall when shipped. They are not guaranteed to have berries on arrival.
