HARDINESS ZONE.5-9 GROW.Plant the seeds one inch (2.5 cm.) or less deep and place the pots where they will be in at least 65 degrees F. (18 C.). Water the little pots as soon as the surface of the soil starts to dry. You can cover the pots with plastic until sprouts appear. WHEN TO PLANT.Between October and April. TALL.A long-lived climber, this Japanese Wisteria can grow vigorously up to 20-30 ft. tall (6-9 m). CARE.Thrives in full sun or part shade,in moderately fertile, medium moisture well-drained soils.Drought tolerant.Best flower production is obtained in full sun. Wisteria floribunda (Japanese Wisteria) is a vigorous deciduous climber boasting masses of drooping clusters, 12 in. long (30 cm) or more, with fragrant, violet to violet blu pea-like flowers. They appear in late spring or early summer along with the leaves. The flowers are followed by attractive, bean-like pods, which ripen in late summer and may persist into winter. Equally attractive is the dense foliage of fresh green, pinnate leaves which consist of 15 lance-shaped leaflets and turn golden-yellow in fall. Japanese Wisteria (Wisteria floribunda) is beautiful climbing vine known to grace arbors and trellises all over the country. Its smells delightful and its colors and blooms dazzle the eyes. But without proper care or placement it can become destructive and a real headache for you and your community. It is important to plant Japanese wisteria in full sun or partial shade to ensure it produces its full number of blooms. (Full sun is considered six hours of sunlight a day.) Wisteria will tolerate various soil conditions as long as they are well-draining and consistently moist but not wet. Wisteria will not do well in wet areas. It prefers an area with loamy soil that is loose and organically rich. When considering pH levels, it is not tolerant of alkaline or very acidic conditions. It prefers a range of 6.0 to 7.0 pH. Like most trees and shrubs, wisteria only needs regular watering during their first year. They will benefit from regular watering to help establish their roots. After this first season, wisteria should only need supplementary watering during dry periods.
