The vines will reach up to 4 feet long, making this plant well suited to a patio or balcony container. Large flowers have overlapping blue-violet petals with ruffled edges and showy magenta anthers. This repeat bloomer pushes out showy flowers in the early summer and again in fall. This low-maintenance Clematis is an excellent container plant, but it also looks amazing as part of a border and can be used to climb an arbor or some type of structure. Use a small trellis to give the vines something to latch onto or let the wandering vines find their way. The large flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies, but this plant is not a favorite with deer and rabbits. Prune again after the first round of flowers die back to promote more abundant flowers for the second bloom cycle. Apply a low nitrogen fertilizer such as 5-10-10 in the spring to support new growth.
