The Music Appreciation course from Memoria Press is designed to deepen students' understanding and appreciation of music by covering the greatest pieces in the canon of Western classical music within their historical context. Students will also be introduced to the foundational musical concepts of notation, rhythm, pitch, form, and melody to give a fuller understanding of the inner workings of the pieces and of music in general. Students will listen to each piece of music (pieces available online) and then read each chapter and listen to the corresponding tracks on the Audio Companion CD (not-included and sold-separately), which will demonstrate the concepts discussed. The 26 pieces of classical music discussed are organized chronologically in order to illustrate the place each one holds in history and in the evolution of music. Each chapter includes the historical context, a discussion of the piece, music history notes, musical concepts illustrated by the piece, facts to remember, and listening exercises. Seven review tests (with review test answer key) are also included. 137 pages, softcover. Non-reproducible. Grades 6 & up.
