This listing is for 1 Nanking Cherry Bush (Prunus tomentosa), now dormant (no leaves) that will ship bare root (no pot and no dirt). **** Please order at least 2 for cross-pollination if you'd like to enjoy those yummy cherries! These have been nicely trimmed, so they will branch out beautifully come spring! Please see the last 2 photos. These are the plants you will receive. They range in size from 12 to 24 inches tall (most single stem) with a strong tap root and smaller, fine roots surrounding it. You may have also heard these called Mountain Cherry, Korean Cherry, Downy Cherry, or Chinese Dwarf Cherry. They're special, no matter which name you choose!**** Important note: Sorry, No Sales to Western, Territories, or Phyto-certificate states due to shipping restrictions in your state (Hawaii, Alaska, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Montana, and Idaho)Few plants can rival the showy Nanking Cherry! From the spectacular flower show covering the stems in the spring to the irresistibly sweet (slightly tart) red fruit that ripens early to mid summer. This bush is one that anyone and everyone would love to have in their landscape! It's a showstopper that gives you a real treat in more ways than one! Zones 2-8 Mature size (average) is 6-10 feet tall and 6-15 feet wide Prefers full sun but will tolerate some light shade as well Very adaptable to different soils but needs well-draining. Keep consistently moist the first year while getting established especially. Fertilizer is not necessary and can actually reduce fruiting Late winter pruning (if needed) but often is not necessary Very resistant to pest and disease -- hardy, low-maintenance plants! Humid climates may need a little extra care. Exceptionally adaptable to cold, hot, windy, and even drought once established Fruit is divine fresh off the bush or can be used in jams, jellies, and baked goods! Moderately quick grower that can live up to 50 years with good care. Begins producing fruit at 2-3 years of age, on average. Cherries are small, with pits, and soft without a stem. Pollinators love me!! Birds love my cherries too. Nanking cherries make excellent windbreaks thanks to their dense branching, hedgerows, or even as single ornamental shrubs. They're extremely versatile landscaping plants. Just remember that you'll need 2 or more for cross-pollination if you'd like the cherries too! These are originally native to China, Japan, and the Himalayas but have not shown tendencies of being invasive here in the United States! They do spread by root suckers but these can easily be pulled up, if desired. In colder zones, it's best to pot these up now and keep them in a cool basement, garage, or other unheated space that will stay above freezing but help keep the plant dormant. Water 2-3 times the first week. Keep consistently moist (not saturated) after. Gradually "harden off" outdoors and plant once the ground is no longer frozen in the spring. Mulching helps insulate the roots and retain moisture as well. If you live in a warmer zone where the ground is not yet frozen, you can go ahead and plant these now while dormant so they can get established. Heavy mulching is needed here as well. If the ground is frozen, treat it as you would in the colder zones by potting it up and waiting until early spring. If you have any questions, I'm here to help the best I can! As a small family nursery, my goal is to offer the "personal touch" to show you that we care about your business. Customer service, and your support, sincerely matter to us. Thanks for looking! I do my best to package your plants with the utmost care and love. Roots will be wrapped in damp paper with a plastic layer secured over top to hold in moisture. We always put "live plant stickers" on your box in hopes that UPS will indeed handle your box with love. We also ship in the quickest (affordable) manner possible to ensure your new plant babies get in your hands as soon as possible. We do not use USPS because we have seen too many long delays which makes for unhappy plants and customers. :) Shipping occurs Monday and Tuesday - sometimes Wednesday - if you are close enough for a Friday delivery. We do this to prevent your plants from sitting in a warehouse over the weekend. If there are major issues with your order, please reach out. We care about your happiness.
