Description

Pincushion flower seed has flower heads that when closely resemble pincushions full of pins. It has showy summer-bloomer hardy in many parts of the country and beloved for its abundant, rich lilac-blue color. PIncushion plants grow as 20 inch tall perennials across the country in USDA zones 3 - 8. These blooms are gorgeous, held up on long stems and boasting chartreuse central discs, a dramatic white ring, and soft, gentle lilac tones that complement the fresh green, fern-like foliage beautifully! Stems reach 20 inches long and are excellent for cutting. This sun-lover is ideal for borders, edging, and beds. Pincushion flower seed normally takes about two weeks to germinate. Barely cover the seeds after sowing. Sowing Rate: 3 - 4 seeds per plant. Start indoors about 10 weeks before last frost and transplant after last frost of spring, or direct sow outside after the last frost. If direct sowing, the plant probably will not bloom the first year. Planting in well drained soil is a necessity since the plants might rot over winter if they stay too wet.
