Developed in Geneva, New York, 'Kristin' is one of the hardiest sweet cherries, withstanding minus 25 F temperatures, and below. Prunus 'Kristin' Cherry is a large flowering and fruiting deciduous tree grown for its ornamental features as well as its delicious fruits. In spring, the tree blooms in beautiful rounded clusters of small, fragrant white flowers before the foliage emerges. Abundant crops of large, glossy, dark-burgundy fruit follow, ripening in July. A "black oxheart" type, the sweet cherries have firm, meaty, juicy flesh with sweet, richly aromatic flavor, excellent for fresh eating. Sweet cherries are a good source of vitamins B6, potassium, magnesium, and fiber. Prunus 'Kristin' Cherry makes an excellent accent or specimen and can also be trained as an espalier or grown as a container plant. 'Kristin' Cherry has been grafted onto Colt, a semi-dwarf rootstock that produces well-branched trees about 80% of standard size. In the garden, 'Kristin' Cherry grows 12 to 15 feet tall at full maturity, but it can be pruned to maintain almost any desired size and shape. In a container, the plant will be much smaller but will still flower and set full-sized fruits. However, 'Kristin' requires another sweet cherry variety nearby for cross-pollination and will bear fruit 2 to 3 years after planting. Cherry trees grow best in a protected sunny to partly sunny location with average, medium moist, well-draining soil but is adaptable to most soils. This cherry tree will ship at the appropriate planting time based on your growing zone. This cherry tree does not ship in December or January. Plant height is 18-36" when shipped.
