New growth has small purple cones! Orange-colored exfoliating bark! One 16-24 inch tall grafted Tanyosho Japanese Red Pine. Pinus densiflora 'Umbraculifera' This 'Umbraculifera' cultivar of Japanese Red Pine grows very slowly. The tree has a compact, dense form, and stays small, making it ideal for a specimen or screen planting. Outstanding orange exfoliating bark on multiple trunks adds winter interest. Would make a very interesting bonsai. Companion Plants: Goes well with Pinus parviflora 'Glauca', Vanderwolf's Pyramid Pine, Thunderhead Pine as well as Black Bamboo.
